The Sanger High football team found the right time to snap its mini losing skid.
The Bee’s 24th-ranked Apaches’ offense and defense were working Friday night, rolling to a 42-20 victory in the Silver Spear Trophy game at Lamonica Stadium.
The win snaps Sanger’s two-game losing streak after opening the season with a win.
Apaches running back Kendale McGrew ran for a couple of touchdowns.
No. 1 Central East 56, Turlock 7
The Bengals broke a 7-7 tie and scored 49 unanswered points to pull away from the Bulldogs.
Relando Jefferson finished with three touchdowns for Central East and Titus Thomas had two.
Central East quarterback Jelani Dippel threw for five touchdowns, and backup Kit Lafaele threw two.
No. 6 Redwood 30, Lemoore 14
The Rangers scored 20 points in the fourth quarter to pull away.
No. 13 Bakersfield 46, No. 9 Clovis West 14
The Drillers were too much for the Golden Eagles, who dropped the past two games.
Last week, Clovis West lost to No. 2 Bakersfield Christian 28-7.
No. 20 Clovis North 41, Madera 27
The Broncos rebounded with a bounce-back win.
Clovis North was coming off a 21-7 loss to Archbishop Mitty last week.
The Broncos broke a 20-20 tie and scored 14 unanswered points to pull away.
JR Cruz had a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown.
No. 21 Immanuel 48, Le Grand 0
The Eagles keep rolling. This time after the bye week.
Immanuel jumped out to a 34-0 halftime lead.
No. 22 Clovis 24, Los Gatos 7
The Cougars scored 17 points in the second quarter.
Clovis’ Jacob Gallagher scored two touchdowns.
No. 19 Arroyo Grande 21, No. 23 Bullard 17
The Knights attempted to score a late touchdown, but quarterback Chase Case scrambled and ran but was tackled as the Eagles held on for the win at Ratcliffe Stadium.
The Knights fell to 3-1.
No. 25 Kerman 14, Central Valley Christian 0
Teams are quickly learning how good the Lions’ defense can be under first-year head coach Josh Lopez, who is known for his defensive mentality.
The Cavaliers found out.
That gives the Lions back-to-back shutouts.
Last week, Kerman rolled to a 38-0 victory over Madera.
In four games, the Lions have allowed only 13 points.
“The kids played tough,” Lopez said. “A lot of kids with heart in that group.”
