MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — A generation has passed since the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil, September 11, 2001.
County Supervisors, elected leaders, our law enforcement and firefighter communities paused to remember and reflect on the 25th anniversary of 9/11.
The annual event centered around the iconic firefighter memorial featuring a unique World Trade Center relic situated in the heart of Madera County at the historic Courthouse Park.
The centerpiece of the memorial is a salvaged steel beam preserved from the collapse of the World Trade Center, donated to Madera County by Sims Metal.
It serves as an everyday reminder honoring our fallen firefighters at home, across the state and country, and those who ran into the burning Towers and the Pentagon to save lives.
The annual remembrance was highlighted by an emotional presentation of colors, keynote speeches, live Taps, the emotional first dispatch call on 9/11, and a poignant last-alarm tribute.
