Former Tennessee baseball head coach Tony Vitello was hired as the Giants’ manager in MLB on Oct. 22. He was introduced in San Francisco on Oct. 30.

Since being hired, the Giants have made nine roster moves. 

On Thursday, San Francisco claimed center fielder Justin Dean off waivers from the Dodgers and left-handed pitcher Reiver Sanmartin off waivers from Cincinnati.

Dean played at Lenoir-Rhyne and was selected by Atlanta in the 17th round of the 2018 MLB draft (No. 502 overall). Sanmartin is from Cartagena, Colombia and debuted in MLB on Sept. 27, 2021.

The Giants also activated left-handed pitcher Erik Miller and right-handed pitcher Randy Rodríguez from the 60-day injured list, while designating right-handed pitcher Mason Black for assignment on Thursday.

Right-handed pitcher Justin Verlander, first baseman Dominic Smith and first baseman Wilmer Flores elected free agency on Sunday. Catcher Tom Murphy also elected free agency from the Giants on Monday.

San Francisco will open spring training under Vitello on Feb. 21, 2026 against Seattle at Peoria Stadium in Peoria, Arizona. The Giants will host the Yankees on March 25, 2026 to open the MLB season at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California.
