San Jose Sharks 8…Los Angeles Kings 1.

Fight after fight after fight after fight.

This was Stenberg’s first time seeing hockey fights up close: “It’s special because in Sweden you can’t fight, so yeah, it was kind of special to see it up from the bench.”

“Beat LA” chants, raining from the rafters.

Even in 4,329-seat Tech CU Arena, even in just a Rookie Faceoff game…

This resembled Sharks hockey, two decades ago, when San Jose was a Western Conference power and Los Angeles was in the basement.

Imagine the real thing, coming soon to SAP Center.

Ivar Stenberg, 2026 No. 2 pick, heard the small-but-boisterous home crowd, after his first (Rookie Faceoff) goal in a San Jose Sharks uniform.

The 18-year-old smiled, when asked about imagining that reception, but multiplied by a hundred at SAP Center.

“That was a cool moment,” Stenberg said.

“Cooler” moments are coming soon, Ivar!

More Than Celebrini’s Buddy

Carson Wetsch is sending a message.

Wetsch, who grew up with Macklin Celebrini in North Vancouver, has been best known among San Jose Sharks fans as Celebrini’s childhood friend.

The 2024 third-round pick, set to make his pro debut with the San Jose Barracuda this season, is so much more, as he showed on Saturday, scoring two goals and two assists, and adding a fight.

“It’s definitely a huge thing to show what I’m all about,” Wetsch said, “and I think I’m starting to do that.”

The big and fast winger knows his identity, clear from his choice of on-the-ice role models, Tanner Jeannot, Tom Wilson, and…Joe Pavelski.

Jeannot is a physical fourth-line winger who’s topped double-digit goals just once in his six-year career.

Wilson has 30-goal hands, but he’s also one of the most feared hitters in the game.

Pavelski?

“Just his tipping stuff,” Wetsch said, “I definitely like to watch that net front.”

Wetsch knows how he’s going to step out of Celebrini’s shadow on the ice. Can he do it?

McCarthy Impressed by Musty & More

McCarthy liked Musty’s fight, but he loved Musty blocking shots:

“We’re working on the defensive reliability.

“As far as the fighting stuff, I don’t know if we really want him doing that too often. But it does show that he’s committed to standing out, trying to do something…
