Susan Sassi returns to Visionarium Live Italian in South Pasadena as her vintage cabaret character Toots McApplesauce on Friday, Oct. 9, from 7 to 9 p.m., in “An Evening with Toots McApplesauce: Only Slightly Misbehaving.”
Tickets are $25 per person and fully redeemable toward food and beverages during the show, and each ticket reserves a table, according to the venue’s Eventbrite listing, which bills the two-hour evening as all ages with free parking and no refunds.
The Oct. 9 date follows a July 17 show at the same venue that the performer’s press office described as a sold-out debut. Sassi wrote and performs the show, and its parody songs were written by Sassi and Kristina Billy, according to the release. The show blends classic jazz and Great American Songbook favorites with original musical parody, character comedy, storytelling and audience interaction, the release said; the venue’s listing describes a vintage-inspired cabaret of jazz standards, American Songbook classics, nostalgic favorites and stories, with old-Hollywood elegance and audience interaction.
Sassi is a Los Angeles-based performer, singer, writer and producer whose career spans musical theatre, comedy and cabaret, according to the venue’s listing. The release describes her as a singer, comedy writer, stand-up comedian, actress and self-producing artist whose writing has been recognized by competitions including the Austin Film Festival, Women In Film, CineStory and ScreenCraft, and whose satire has appeared in McSweeney’s, The Belladonna and Weekly Humorist; it says she is a summa cum laude graduate of Point Park University’s musical theatre program and a former Dorothy Haas Acting Apprentice at Philadelphia’s Walnut Street Theatre. Billy is a writer and video game narrative professional with more than 20 years in AAA games whose credits include Call of Duty, Guitar Hero, Dead Space and Need for Speed, the release said.
