Re “San Diego’s bike lane network marred by traffic-clogged streets, connection gaps, SDSU report finds” (Aug. 5): I have commuted by bicycle in San Diego for over 30 years. Some of the bike lane improvements have been great. Others are of limited use.
The story mentions the protected bike lane along the Interstate 15 that runs from Camino Del Rio South to Kensington. This lane is great, but it’s a dead end. There’s no way to get across the Interstate 8 once you get to Mission Valley.
The section of Mira Mesa with “sharrows” is a death trap, but the solution cannot make Mira Mesa more congested. Cyclists should be directed to the safer side streets that are a block or two away.
