A man was killed in Long Beach after he was hit by three vehicles on Sunday night, Sept. 14, of which only one driver stopped and spoke with investigators, authorities said.
The crash occurred along Pacific Avenue just north of Pacific Coast Highway just before 7:25 p.m., police said.
The man was walking eastbound across Pacific Avenue outside of a crosswalk and was struck by a white SUV after he stepped off the center median into the northbound lanes, police said. The man was then struck by a dark-colored sedan.
The drivers of both of those vehicles fled after the collisions, police said.
The man was then struck by the driver of a 2021 Jaguar, but that driver stayed and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
Officers attempted to help the man until paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital, where he died, police said.
Speed, distracted driving and impaired driving do not appear to be factors in the collision, police said, but the investigation was ongoing.
The man’s identity was withheld pending notification of his relatives.
