BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 55-year-old Los Angeles woman died Sunday afternoon after her vehicle veered off, overcorrected, and collided head-on with a truck on Cuddy Valley near Frazier Park.
The California Highway Patrol said on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at around 2:20 p.m., officers were called to Cuddy Valley Road, west of Ivins Road, for a report of a two-vehicle crash.
CHP said a preliminary investigation found that 57-year-old Sean Thompson from Frazier Park was driving a Ford F-250, within the eastbound lane of Cuddy Valley Road, west of Ivins Road. According to CHP, at the same time, a 55-year-old Los Angeles woman was driving a Toyota Echo, westbound on Cuddy Valley Road.
CHP said for reasons to be determined, the Toyota veered off the roadway to the right, overcorrected to the left, and drove into the direct path of the Ford.
The driver of the Ford tried to move out of the way, however, was unsuccessful and both vehicles collided head-on, according to CHP.
No passengers were in either vehicle.
The driver of the Ford remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The driver of the Toyota died.
Alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor in this crash for the driver of the Ford, according to CHP.
CHP said it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor for the 55-year-old female Toyota driver.
