FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — After 40 years of funds and spending, Measure “C” will end in 2027. But what projects have been finished from this measure?
Let’s start with the original plan from 1987.
According to Measure “C”’s website, there’s no official count of projects completed.
Instead the original plan had the Council of Fresno County Governments update the plan every two years to provide project updates.
According to those updates there were six major outputs from the measure…
1,200 Miles of local street and highway improvements funded…12 miles built on State Route 16817 miles built on State Route 4157 miles improved on State Route 180Local transportation projects in all 15 Fresno County cities and unincorporated Fresno County.Expansion of FAX and Clovis Transit Services and bike-lane work.
Before that original plan ended in 2007, a new plan was created called the Extension Expenditure Plan.
This 20 year tax extension started that same year, after being approved by voters in 2006, and was expected to raise $1.7 billion for transportation improvements by 2027.
So how is that money being used until next year?
According to the website, there are six different programs.
Local Transportation Program receiving a little over 34.5% (a little over $593.5 million)Regional Transportation Program receiving nearly 30.5% (nearly $521 million)Regional Public Transit Program with 24% ($412 million).Grade Separation Program with six percent of the funds ($102.5 million).The last five percent is going to the Environmental Enhancement, Administration and Planning Programs with almost $85.5 million.
As of the latest budget approval from June of this year, there’s an estimated $1.95 billion that will be spent on rural and urban transportation projects.
But these funds aren’t collected from tax revenue, instead accrued from interest.
