Dozens of local beaches, creeks, parks, and waterways are involved in the yearly event

The 42nd annual California Coastal Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to noon, and beaches, reserves, and institutes all over Orange County are set to participate. Here are just a few of the events coordinated in partnership with Orange County Coastkeeper.

Pirate’s Cove, Corona del Mar

Following a clean-up from 9 to 11:30 a.m., the Asian Climbing Collective will host a group climb along the sandstone boulders from noon to 3 p.m., followed by a raffle at Arc’teryx Fashion Island at 4 p.m.

Capistrano Beach, Dana Point

Capo is one of four Dana Point beaches taking part in Coastal Clean-Up Day, alongside Baby Beach & Ocean Institute, Salt Creek Beach Park, and Doheny State Beach. For Capistrano Beach, the clean-up will come off the heels of severe property damage due to Hurricane Marie.

Santiago Canyon Watershed, Silverado

The Fire Safe Council in the East Orange County Canyons, the main collaborator for this clean-up, has designated it as a “Chipper Day” taking place at the Silverado Community Center. The clean-up will extend until 2:30 p.m. in order for the Fire Safe Council to retain their designation as a “Fire Wise Community.” They will also collect tires, and set up bins to separate mattresses, lumber, and debris.

San Joaquin Marsh, Irvine

For the Irvine Ranch Water District, Saturday is also their annual Watershed Clean-up Day. Participants will help pick up the trash along the San Diego Creek and the San Joaquin Marsh so that it does not reach the ocean.

Oct.10 at Peter’s Landing Marina, Huntington Beach

For those who want to help the environment but cannot make it on Sept. 19, head to Peter’s Landing Marina on Oct. 10. Volunteers will meet up at the patio on the B-dock to pick up coffee and supplies at 10 a.m. before heading to the marina at 11:30 a.m. for the actual clean-up.
