BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The City of Bakersfield announced that a Ross Stores, Inc. processing and distribution center will be coming. It is expected to bring hundreds of jobs and millions in investments to the Bakersfield community.
According to a release by the City of Bakersfield, Ross plans to invest about $500 million to develop an advanced 1.75 million-square-foot processing and distribution center near the corner of East Belle Terrace and Mount Vernon Avenue in southeast Bakersfield.
The multi-year project is expected to break ground in 2027 and, upon completion, create nearly 1,000 new jobs while strengthening the company’s distribution network and supporting its long-term growth and expansion, according to the release.
“This is the largest job generating project sited in Bakersfield in decades. This is an important step and signal in our efforts to grow and diversify our economy,” Bakersfield City Manager Christian Clegg said. “We showed we can fast track, use our development streamlining muscles, form partnerships and have a customer-first approach for this project. This is a great win for Bakersfield and the region.”

The southeast Bakersfield location will be the retail company’s 10th distribution center. There is currently a Ross distribution center in Shafter.
