On Wednesday, DHS posted to X – and later deleted – an image of a bearded man facing the Transformers character Optimus Prime. The caption read, “You don’t know how to drive, Mr. Singh” and “Get off our roads” and “Self deport or find out.”
Some 35% of California’s commercial drivers are Sikh. One of them just “found out” that racist ads may have consequences. He was stabbed 17 times in the restroom at a Wyoming truck stop by a man who fled in another truck, but was eventually caught. https://www.sacbee.com/news/california/article317274074.html?giftCode=6370443f043eef1bef9ccde6051eade91201d20c2c584793c370fa0ffbb203b1 Fortunately, a family at the rest stop was able to provide some first aid until the ambulance arrived, and the man who was stabbed is hospitalized but conscious, able to describe the attack, and should recover.
The family who helped the man was Hispanic. Evidently someone remembers the message of the parable of the Good Samaritan, who aided the traveler who was attacked and left by the side of the road, even though he was of a different community.
DHS claims that of course this attack had nothing to do with their post the day before.
And so far, ICE has not arrested or deported either the man who was stabbed or the family who aided him.
