A man who may have been in a wheelchair was killed in a hit-and-run in Long Beach today.
The man was killed around 12:35 a.m. Friday when a white BMW sedan traveling southbound on the Pacific Coast Highway struck him crossing the street, Long Beach Police Department Lt. Eric Golz said.
A wheelchair was involved during the collision and video of the scene shows blood on it; however, police did not confirm if the victim was in the wheelchair at the time of the collision.
The driver fled the scene in the vehicle and was apprehended by police officers moments later at the intersection of East Second Street and Pacific Coast Highway, the LBPD said.
Responding police officers performed CPR on the victim until personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived and took over, Golz said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another man at the scene of the collision was transported to the hospital, although he was not injured in the collision, Golz said. The man may have known the victim and had an unknown medical condition, Golz added.
Video from the scene shows a man with white hair and a white beard being loaded into an ambulance while receiving oxygen.
Officers were still investigating the scene as of 4:50 a.m. and East 7th Street was closed between PCH and Bellflower Avenue.
