1. Wolf Pack basketball lands California all-state standout Ramie Chatman
Nevada women’s basketball picked up its second commitment this week from a California high school star when two-time all-state honoree Ramie Chatman pledged to the Wolf Pack on Thursday. A 5-foot-8 point guard from Fresno, Chatman plays her high school ball for Clovis West, which is led by former Reno High head coach Craig Campbell, who was inducted into the Huskies athletics Hall of Fame this year. Clovis West ranked sixth in the state of California and 59th in the nation last year, per MaxPreps. Chatman plays her AAU ball for the Cal Stars, the program built by new Nevada head coach Kelly Sopak. She also held scholarship offers from Fresno State, Cal Poly, UCSB, Cal Baptist, UC San Diego, Pacific and Boston, among others.
“Ramie’s a national-level player whose recruiting will absolutely blow up this summer,” Campbell told the Fresno Bee in March. “The moment is never too big for her, and when she plays within her abilities she can take over a game.”
Chatman joins Tess Oldenburg, from Chino, Calif., and Love Forde, a top-100 national recruit, in Nevada’s 2027 recruiting class. Verbal commitments aren’t binding. Chatman can sign an official letter of intent in November.
2. Nevada volleyball gets first win under coach Jason Borchin
Wolf Pack volleyball beat Eastern Washington in four sets Thursday night to secure its first win under head coach Jason Borchin. Nevada won by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 21-25 and 28-26 to snap a seven-game skid to open the season. Paige Thies led Nevada with a 19-kill, 13-dig double-double while Malia Pilimai added a career-high 16 kills. Adriana Dorn paced the offense with 28 assists and nine digs while Masyn Navarro anchored the back row with a match- and career-high 23 digs while adding two aces. Nevada improved to 1-7 while Eastern Washington fell to 6-4. The Wolf Pack plays Portland on Friday and Cal State Bakersfield on Saturday in the EWU Tournament before starting conference play next week.
3. Wolf Pack women’s soccer ends non-league play with loss to LBSU
Nevada women’s soccer lost its final non-conference game, a 3-0 home decision to Long Beach State on Thursday night at Mackay Stadium. Long Beach State built early momentum with goals in the 4th and 31st minutes before putting the game away with an 89th-minute goal. Cherrie Cox scored twice while Radisson Banks added a tally. Nevada was outshot 12-7 with Long Beach State holding a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal. Mia Collins started in goal for Nevada and made nine saves while allowing three goals. Nevada finished non-league play 3-6 under first-year coach Jeremey Evans and opens Mountain West play Thursday at home against Wyoming.
