PONTIAC, Mich. – The parents of a 3-year-old boy who died after being shot inside a home in Pontiac on Tuesday have been charged.
The shooting happened in the 100 block of Maynard Court on Sept. 15.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, the 3-year-old boy was shot in the head with an unsecured handgun that was inside the home.
The boy was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The circumstances surrounding the boy’s death remain under investigation.
According to the sheriff’s office, four other children — ages 8 months, 4, 7, and 8 — were inside the home at the time of the shooting, as well as the children’s mother, Kasharae Kristine Herron, 31, and their grandmother.
The child’s father, Michael Duriel Lacy, 39, was also home when the shooting happened but left the area before deputies arrived, authorities said. He was arrested later that evening after he returned home.
A 9mm handgun was recovered, and investigators learned it was registered to Lacy. Two spent shell casings and a bullet fragment were also recovered from the basement, where investigators believe the shooting happened.
Both Lacy and Herron allegedly told detectives they knew the gun was unsecured in the basement. Child Protective Services removed all the children from the home.
Lacy and Herron were charged with failure to store a firearm resulting in death, which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison or a fine of up to $10,000.
The two were arraigned in court on Sept. 18 and were each given a $25,000 bond. If either posts bond, they must wear a GPS tether. They are scheduled to return to court on Sept. 29 at 1:30 p.m.
