BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man was arrested Thursday in connection to his girlfriend’s death in late July.
Officials with the coroner’s office said Ariana Rangel Ortega, 31, was found unresponsive at a home on Mohanan Street on July 21. Ortega was taken to Mercy Hospital Southwest where she was pronounced dead the same day.
On Sept. 17, Alfonso Rosales-Ortiz, 34, was arrested was arrested in connection to her death.
Officials with the police department said, Rosales-Ortiz and Ortega had a history of domestic violence incidents.
The victim did not show obvious signs of recent trauma at the time during the investigation, but BPD homicide detectives developed evidence implicating Rosales-Ortiz in the death, according to a release. A coroner’s identification notice issued Friday said Ortega died of combined effects of strangulation and blunt force injuries.
