BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — 23 people were arrested during a multi-agency operation while addressing reported nuisance, lodging and drug activity in downtown Bakersfield.
The Bakersfield Police Department said on Wednesday, September 16th, 2026, the department’s Impact Team led a coordinated, multi-agency operation to address public safety, health, and quality of-life concerns in the downtown business district.
The response included law enforcement, code enforcement, animal control, medical services, mental health professionals, and other community resources.
The effort targeted reports of unlawful lodging, public nuisance, and drug activity within the area bounded by F Street, Truxtun Avenue, Union Avenue, and 30th Street.
Police said before the enforcement, Flood Bakersfield Ministries conducted outreach to offer support and housing resources to unhoused individuals in the area. The efforts successfully secured eight placements at the Brundage Lane Navigation Center from 39 contacts made prior to the operation.
23 people were arrested for various quality-of-life, trespass, and narcotics offenses. One dog was taken into protective.

Residents are asked to contact Community Vitality for non-emergency homelessness-related issues, including encampments, trespassing on private property, trash, debris, and hazardous waste related to homelessness, and outreach for unhoused individuals.
