SACRAMENTO, CALIF. (KFYR) – North Dakota State football won the battle between two teams that both made the jump to the FBS level this year. The Bison went on the road and defeated Sacramento State 31-10 to move to 4-0 on the season.
The Bison join USC as the only 4-0 FBS teams in the country.
“I think we want to be great,” NDSU Head Coach Tim Polasek said on the ESPN broadcast after the game. “We have to make our mind up that we want to be a great finishing team.
It took NDSU just five plays to score as Nathan Hayes connected with Jackson Williams on a 32-yard pass for the first score of the game. The Bison also scored on their first defensive possession of the game thanks to an athletic play from Ray James to keep a fumble in bounds, which allowed Darius Givance to make it 14-0.
The ground game gave the Bison their next two scores in the first half as Myles Mitchell scored third touchdown in two games. DJ Scott rallied off a 42-yard rushing touchdown to make it 28-3 going into halftime.
The scoring slowed down in the second half with both teams combining for just 10 points.
The Bison sealed the game with their seventh interception of the season. They forced three turnovers Saturday night.
“Finishing on a stop is a big deal,” Polasek told ESPN. “We have to enjoy these wins.”
Up next: NDSU heads into a bye week before hosting Wyoming the first weekend in October.
