A 50-year-old ride-hailing driver has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault that occurred in San Marcos early Thursday morning, authorities said.
The 21-year-old woman told California Highway Patrol officers that the driver touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her during a ride on state Route 78 toward Twin Oaks Valley Road around 2 a.m., according to CHP Officer Jared Grieshaber. The victim said she was riding in a silver 2022 Honda Accord.
Detectives from the CHP’s Border Division Major Crimes Unit began working the case and arrested the suspect. No information about the arrest was released.
Because the man worked as a ride-hailing driver, the CHP is asking other riders to come forward if they had similar experiences. Authorities did not identify which ride-hailing company he drove for.
