FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton defeated San Jose State 2-1 behind Fernando Valenzuela’s brace Sunday evening at Titan Stadium. With the win the Titans improve to 1-3-3 on the year.
Fullerton got off to an ideal start, earning a penalty kick in the second minute of play. Valenzuela finished the PK with ease to put the Titans up 1-0.
San Jose State came back to tie the game in the 19th minute on a goal by Daniel Fregoso Bautista. The Spartans controlled a majority of possession in the first half and out-shot the Titans 15-6.
The Titans regrouped at halftime and completely flipped the momentum of the game in the second. After giving up 15 shots in the first half, Fullerton allowed just two shots in the last 45 minutes while recording eight shots of its own.
After knocking on the door but coming up empty, the Titans finally found the go-ahead goal in the 67th minute for Valenzuela’s second of the game to record his first career brace. Adan Alvarado and Jose de la Torre assisted on the goal.

The Titans played lockdown defense for the remainder of the game to secure their first win of the season. Max Leviton got the start in goal and earned his first win as a Titan have recording three saves, all in the first half.
Fullerton looks to carry its momentum into Wednesday’s game at UC San Diego. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
