Dolly Parton is being memorialized in her beloved home away from home: California.
Governor Gavin Newsom, announced on Sunday, September 20, that September 25 will forever be known as “Dolly Parton Day” in the Golden State—an homage to her sit song and film “9 to 5.”
“Dolly Parton was an icon. Dolly was larger than life with big hair and a bigger heart,” he said in a video announcement shared via Instagram.
“People around the world have been touched by her music, by her philanthropy, and by her humor,” Newson’s wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, added.
Gavin continued, “There are few more memorable people than Dolly. So, when it came to giving her an official day in California, there was really only one date that made any sense.”
September 25, or “9/25,” is a “chance to celebrate Dolly and remind ourselves that we could all use a little more of her sparkle in our lives.”
“This new law is a reminder to live the way Dolly did: joyfully, graciously, and with a whole lot of heart,” the politician captioned his post.
In addition to being an homage to her beloved 1980 hit, September 25 will mark one month since the death of the country music icon.
Parton tragically died at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer, her family announced at the time.
A personal day in the state of California is not the only honor Parton has received since her death. Reba McEntire and Sally Field honored her at the 2026 Emmy Awards, and the Governor of Tennessee announced the renaming of Nashville’s airport after the late superstar.
