BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Two men remain in critical condition after their vehicle allegedly ran a stop sign at Brimhall and Renfro roads, crashed into a dirt berm, and overturned early Saturday morning.
The Bakersfield Police Department said on September 19, 2026, at around 12:12 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of Brimhall Road and Renfro Road regarding a single-vehicle traffic crash.
When officers arrived, they found a silver Nissan sedan in a field west of the intersection.
The driver and passenger, both men, sustained severe injuries and were taken to a hospital.
Police said as of Saturday morning, both remain in critical condition.
A preliminary investigation found that the Nissan was traveling westbound on Brimhall Road when the driver failed to stop at the posted stop sign and continued into an adjacent field at a high rate of speed, according to police.
The vehicle subsequently struck a large dirt berm and overturned.
Police said it is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
