SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday announced that he signed seven bills focused on data centers in California.
According to a news release from his office, the bills are focused on water, electricity and land use with regard to data centers. The bills require data centers to report water and electricity use.
Data centers cause concern for some because of how much water and electricity they consume. Lawmakers have previously spoken on the risks they could pose if not properly regulated.
Below are the bills Newsom signed into law:

The release from Newsom’s office also accused President Donald Trump of dismissing “Americans’ concerns about the growing emergence of data centers in their communities.”
His office said the aim is to keep the cost of data centers from being shifted to customers. The legislation also intends to make sure that data centers comply with California energy procurement requirements and pay for any upgrade costs.
