(FOX40.COM) — Sacramento Poet Laureate Andru Defeye and local artist group Sol Collective will unveil a public art installation in Capitol Park to represent the decrease in California’s entertainment jobs late Monday.
The installation is an empty, abandoned film set that includes 119 items, including empty director’s chairs, dark lighting rigs and other idle equipment. Each set item represents 1,000 entertainment jobs that have left the state since 2022, and the set will also feature 29 silhouettes representing the 29% reduction in film production that same year.
The installation joins a growing call from workers, business leaders and over 3,000 community voices with hopes of negotiating a resolution in the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery dispute with Attorney General Rob Bonta.
Industry players said that the $110 billion Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery merger is expected to cause thousands of layoffs once the merger occurs. The merger is delayed until June 2027 following antitrust concerns in film and pay TV filed by California and 11 other states earlier this July.
The installment viewing will be on view Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Artists will be speaking to the community from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
