Coroner identifies 74-year-old woman who died due to hyperthermia in Oildale

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified an elderly woman who was found dead due to hyperthermia inside an Oildale home as 74-year-old Karen Elizabeth Demarais.

The report said on August 12, 2026, Demarais was found dead in the 400 block of Windy Gap Court in Oildale.

The report said an autopsy was conducted and the cause of death was determined to be hyperthermia due to environmental exposure. The manner of death was an accident.
