Sacramento’s Memorial Auditorium plans centennial celebration
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Sacramento’s Memorial Auditorium, located at 15th and I streets, will celebrate its 100th anniversary next year with a series of events approved by the City Council.
The auditorium, which opened in 1927, has been the site of countless graduations, concerts, boxing matches, and even circuses over the years.
The City Council voted to approve spending $1.05 million on the “Memorial 100” program.
The celebration will begin in February with a two-day Centennial Weekend event featuring artists, bands, other performers, and a community open house.
This summer, the festivities will include a new exhibition based on the Tower Records Collection.
Later in the year, a free projection show will be displayed on the exterior of Memorial Auditorium. The show will feature archival images, music, historical milestones, and stories from Sacramento.
