FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A driver was arrested for DUI after crashing into a Fresno Police patrol SUV, trapping an officer inside on Tuesday night.

The Fresno Police Department says the crash happened around 11:12 p.m. near Friant Road and Lakeview Drive.

The officer was blocking traffic with his emergency lights activated while emergency crews worked on an earlier crash.

Investigators say 62-year-old Brent Bennett was driving north on Friant Road when he struck the side of the patrol SUV, flipping it over.

Fresno Fire crews freed the trapped officer, who was taken to the hospital with a complaint of pain.

Bennett was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
