Girls explore STEM opportunities at California aerospace museum

MCCLELLAN PARK, Calif. —

More than 1,200 girls participated in a two-day event at the Aerospace Museum of California, where they engaged in hands-on STEM activities, explored aircraft and aerospace exhibits, and connected with nearly 80 women mentors.

The mentors represented a variety of careers, including aviation, aerospace, engineering, science, technology, healthcare, public safety, education, and the arts.

Organizers said the goal of the event was to help girls see what is possible for their own futures.

Some students described the event as eye-opening.

This year’s event also included a special tribute to Dolly Parton and her efforts to promote childhood literacy.

Organizers said reading and imagination give young girls the confidence to succeed in anything they decide to do.
