Long Beach families can access free, comprehensive health resources and wellness opportunities during the 10th annual Family Health Festival this weekend.

The community-focused event, hosted by the Agape Children’s Museum, will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Ability First Education Center, 3770 E. Willow St.

The festival’s mission is to promote health awareness by collaborating with local health and wellness providers and specialists, and motivating attendees to make positive health behavior changes, organizers said. Each year, the festival has more than 20 exhibitors and welcomes 300 attendees.

Attendees can expect free health screenings, interactive demonstrations to get children moving, community resource booths, giveaways, music, health food vendors and more, according to the Agape Children’s Museum’s website.

Agape Children’s Museum is a family health and educationally minded organization that provides intellectual, emotional, social and physical development to children in Long Beach and across Southern California, according to its website. The nonprofit’s mission is to provide a hands-on learning environment that promotes the overall health and well-being of children and their families.

Since its inception in 2011, the museum has impacted the lives of thousands of children and their families with hands-on art, literacy and health learning experiences, organizers said. It offers a variety of programs including hands-on exhibits, open studios, art birthday parties, special needs programming, internships, art summer camps, and cultural, senior and family programming. Museum artists and staff lead programming in area schools, libraries, community pop-ups and afterschool sites through its Community Cares Programs.

The annual Family Health Festival is another community offering that the nonprofit uses to connect families with the resources they may need.

“Bring your family, bring your friends, bring your curiosity,” organizers said. “This isn’t just an event – it’s your launchpad to a healthier, more vibrant life.”

Community members can have fun on Friday, Sept. 25, and also support a good cause. Long Beach Forward, a local nonprofit, will once again host a “Tardeada Fundraiser,” with donations supporting families and individuals impacted by ongoing federal immigration enforcement.

The fundraiser will take place from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Youth Movement and Education Center, 2217 E. Sixth St.

Attendees will be able to enjoy an evening of local vendors, raffles, community resources and delicious food, organizers said.

A “tardeada” is a community-centered evening gathering, rooted in Mexican and Hispanic cultures.

Organizers suggest donation of $5 to $10 to attend. People can also directly make a donation to the Belonging & Resiliency Fund at givebutter.com/BandR. Limited free parking will be available at 621 Dawson Ave.
