Lodi Library Foundation hosts ‘Dolly’s Imagination Celebration’ on 9 to 5 Day in California
The Lodi Public Library will welcome people from across the community to a celebration of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program on Friday.
The event aligns with, 9-2-5 (September 25) having recently been proclaimed Dolly Parton Day in California following the country music legend’s death in August. The song “9 to 5” was one of her most popular hits.
The Lodi Public Library Foundation serves as the local arm of the Imagination Library in Lodi. Parton founded the program in 1995. It delivers free books to children each month from the time they’re born to age five.
Friday’s event will give families a chance to sign up for the Imagination Library program and for library cards. They’ll also get to enjoy family-friendly activities.
“Today is nothing else but to celebrate Dolly’s life and to have a better understanding of her impact,” said Stuart Krengel, board president of the Lodi Public Library Foundation. “I hope a lot of people come here to celebrate, but also to learn about the Imagination Library and also just about her legacy in general.”
The Imagination Celebration event at the Lodi Public Library runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It’s free and open to everyone. It’s an event the library foundation says it hopes will encourage people to check out their local library.
“We’re 100% committed to making sure that basically the highest income of people and the lowest income of people in Lodi have access to literacy because in Dolly’s words, she said, ‘If you can read you can dream and if you can dream you can be successful,'” Krengel said. “I think that rings true in our work and that continues to be our motivation.”
