FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A driver was arrested after being accused of hitting a man who allegedly left a restaurant without paying on Friday night.

Fresno Police officers responded to a hit-and-run near Fulton Street and Olive Avenue at around 9:30 p.m.

Police said a man at a nearby restaurant left without paying, and a security guard chased after him.

The man ran onto Olive Avenue and was hit by a car traveling eastbound on Olive Avenue.

The driver fled the scene after the collision.

The man was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries and reported to be in stable condition.

Officers used the suspect description and Automated License Plate Reader technology to track the car’s location.

Officers found the car near East Hammon Avenue and North First Street.

Officers identified the driver as 36-year-old Steven Jones, who walked up to them and admitted he was driving the car during the collision.

Officers conducted a DUI investigation and determined Jones had been driving under the influence.

Jones was cited for DUI and booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
