I HOPE THAT THEY RELEASE MORE INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED TO THE KID. EVERYBODY AROUND HERE HAS A VAPE. EVERYBODY. AND IT’S JUST IT WAS TAKEN EXTREMELY OUT OF PROPORTION AND A CHILD LOST THEIR LIFE. THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TELL US IT WAS ABOUT 445 ON THURSDAY EVENING WHEN THEY RECEIVED NUMEROUS CALLS FROM PEOPLE REPORTING THERE HAD BEEN A STABBING AT THE TRAIN STATION. THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS IT APPEARS THIS ALL STARTED WHEN A SAC EMPLOYEE TOLD TWO TEENS TO STOP VAPING ON THE TRAIN. THE TWO JUVENILES EXITED THE TRAIN, AS DID THE AMBASSADOR. THERE WAS A PHYSICAL CONFRONTATION THAT ENSUED BETWEEN THE MALE AND THE EMPLOYEE. FROM THERE, THAT FEMALE ALSO JUMPED IN THERE, TURNING IN KIND OF A TWO ON ONE FIGHT. THE EMPLOYEE THEN PRODUCED A KNIFE AND STABBED THE MALE JUVENILE. A SPOKESPERSON FOR THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS AT THIS POINT, IT’S UNCLEAR WHY THE EMPLOYEE GOT OFF THE TRAIN. HE ALSO SAYS INVESTIGATORS DON’T KNOW YET IF THE TEENS WERE KICKED OFF THE TRAIN OR STOPPED AT THE STATION. THEY INITIALLY PLANNED TO. A SPOKESPERSON FOR SAC SAYS THEIR EMPLOYEE WAS ATTACKED BY THE TWO TEENS, WHICH LED TO A STABBING IN SELF-DEFENSE. TO CALL IT RARE WOULD BE UNDERPLAYING IT LIKE THIS IS ONE OF THOSE UNHEARD OF TYPE SITUATIONS. INVESTIGATORS ARE STILL REVIEWING VIDEO AND COLLECTING EVIDENCE. AS OF RIGHT NOW, THE EMPLOYEE IS NOT BEING CHARGED WITH A CRIME. No charges after teen fatally stabbed by SacRT employee, Sacramento County DA says

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office has declined to file charges in the case of a 16-year-old who was fatally stabbed by a Sacramento Regional Transit employee at a bus station in Rancho Cordova in June.Michael Ray Berry, of Fair Oaks, died in the June 19 stabbing, which SacRT said at the time was an act of self-defense during a fight.(Previous coverage in the video above.)“The District Attorney’s Office reviewed a criminal referral regarding this matter. After evaluating the totality of the facts and circumstances, there is insufficient evidence to file charges and sustain a conviction under the ‘guilt beyond a reasonable doubt’ standard—specifically, proving the act causing death was committed willfully and without lawful excuse or justification,” the office said in a statement. “Furthermore, the individual has a valid self-defense claim, as the decedent ran toward him, creating a reasonable fear of imminent bodily harm. Accordingly, the office declined to file charges.” According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the stabbing happened in the 10100 block of Mills Station Road near Folsom Boulevard and Mather Field Road.Officials said Berry was vaping on a light rail train with a girl. The RT employee, who is a security guard, told both of them to stop, leading to the pair getting off the train. The sheriff’s department said a physical fight started between Berry and the security guard near a bus stop, where the security guard stabbed Berry.Berry was taken to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, the sheriff’s office said. A SacRT spokesperson said that the time that employees were authorized to carry knives. Transit ambassadors are non-sworn and trained in de-escalation and customer service.
