FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — First responders from across the Central Valley were honored in downtown Fresno on Friday during the Diocese of Fresno’s annual Blue Mass.

The Mass marks the 12th year of the tradition at St. John’s Cathedral.

The Mass honors active, retired, and fallen first responders, with agencies from across the valley taking part in the event.

Bishop Joseph Brennan blessed the badges of first responders during the Mass, then headed outside to bless their emergency cars.

The diocese says the annual tradition is a way to show first responders they have the support and prayers of the community.
