FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Kids put on their sheriff’s badges on Friday during a unique field trip to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
Coordinated by their first-grade teacher at Temperance-Kutner Elementary, students spent the morning learning about several sheriff’s units, including the bomb squad and SWAT team.
The kids got to try on equipment, get a closer look at bomb squad operations and even sit in sheriff’s cruisers.
Their teacher, Kari Smith, says the field trip gave students a chance to ask questions and learn more about the people who serve their community.
Kari Smith said, “We love interacting with the community and teaching the kids about the community, and the people who live and work in our community. And so we are incorporating the be safe, be respectful, be responsible, be the best you can be with our community service and education. And so we thought this would be a great place to start.”
This was the first time the elementary school visited the sheriff’s office, and they’re hoping to make it an annual trip.
