Re “Glitch causes spike in garbage charges” (Sept. 23): Residents should be thankful for neighbors like those pictured in this article.
Once this latest mess is corrected, the county treasurer-tax collector should make clear to the city that enough is enough. The county should get out of the business of collecting San Diego’s trash fee and require the city to bill users directly.
Mayor Todd Gloria, Council President Joe LaCava and Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera, the masterminds of this trash-tax scheme, have again created an unprecedented, wasteful burden on their constituents, while adding expenses to already-challenged city coffers. And adding insult to injury, they have yet again amped up the public’s distrust in our city government.
