Sacramento mural unveiled to honor Chicano and Indigenous culture
A mural celebrating Chicano and Indigenous culture was unveiled this afternoon at Southside Park in Sacramento as part of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The mural, created by local artist Richard Alcala, is located at the Southside Park amphitheater. The free community event brought out hundreds of people and featured traditional dancers, special guests, dignitaries, and lowriders depicted in the mural.
The ribbon cutting and mural also highlighted Indigenous lives lost, including raising awareness for Cole Brings Plenty, a young actor from the “Yellowstone” spinoff “1923,” who was reported missing and later found dead. His family traveled to Sacramento to honor his memory and advocate for justice.
“My son, he was gonna be a true leader of our people. And we just bring people together. That’s the bottom line, don’t separate, don’t cause division, bring our people together, cause all of our causes are the same,” his family said.
KCRA 3’s Leticia Ordaz helped MC the event and had her name featured on the mural. Visitors can stop by Southside Park anytime to view the mural.
