Crews battle shed fire with dozens of golf carts in Sacramento
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. —
A fire damaged a building storing dozens of golf carts Monday morning in Sacramento. Some of those golf carts had lithium-ion batteries, which can be toxic when burned, according to Sacramento Fire officials.
Crews responded to Reservoir Road near Garden Highway just before 2 a.m. Monday.
The fire tore through a shed with 50-60 golf carts, prompting a hazmat response.
Crews faced challenges, including a lack of a reliable water source, officials said. The nearest fire hydrants are about two miles away. Crews went defensive, which means they pulled back firefighters and didn’t send them into the building for safety reasons.
Firefighters got help from a drone overhead. It allowed them to see hotspots in the building and move crews as needed.
No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
