Re “Deficits might wipe out a third of MTS bus routes” (Sept. 18): I suppose as MTS bus routes are eliminated, housing constructed within either 1/2 or 1 mile (depending on the regulations of the moment) of those routes, without adequate parking, will have to be torn down or at least have to provide adequate parking.

I have a suggestion that works in Europe. Amsterdam has a ticket booth on each car where passengers either scan their pass or buy a one-way ticket. No one rides for free, which I’ve observed many times on our trolley. This would increase revenue and close the deficit, at least on the trolley lines.

MTS and local officials are too lenient about making sure every passenger pays!
