FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Over the last two weeks, the price of a gallon of gas has increased roughly around 20 cents per week in Fresno.
With no end in sight to climbing costs, some local services may have to start charging more for services, too.
“Our gas bill’s gone up around $200 a week,” said Bob Hill, the owner of B&D Pest Control in Fresno County.
Hill’s company only has three trucks in its fleet, but using them is now costing the business around $800 more per month.
“We’ve done everything we can to reduce our overhead so that we didn’t have to charge more, but we’ve exhausted all possibilities at this point. So, if gas keeps going up, we’re going to have to raise our rates,” Hill said.
Plus, he says the economy has already started costing them customers — saying several have told him they just can’t afford to pay for his services.
Monday, Fresno gas stations averaged $6.27 cents a gallon — A 17.8 cent increase in the last week, and nearly 70 cents higher compared to last month, according to GasBuddy.
As prices are expected to continue to go up, Hill advises other businesses to get creative in keeping their own expenses down, and customers happy.
“We’ve implemented a couple of things, scheduling being the biggest one; knowing where my guys are when customers call in… scheduling them for the same time that they’re in that area instead of just saying, ‘Oh, yeah, we can get it today,” he said. “Another thing I’ve done is eliminate printing invoices in the vehicles. The printers and the ink, that was a pretty good cost.”
