The cost to park in downtown San Jose could soon be going up.

The San Jose City Council on Tuesday is scheduled to vote on a plan to double the downtown parking meter rate to $4 per hour and extend parking meter hours to 9 p.m. instead of the current end time of 6 p.m.

One member of the city’s Downtown Parking Board sent an open letter to the council recommending it postpone the vote.

Tuesday’s meeting starts at 1:30 p.m.
