The California Highway Patrol will hold a Bell Toll Tribute ceremony at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento to honor Officer Brian Liles, who died Monday, Sept. 28, in a crash on State Route 99 in Tipton.

On Sept. 28, Officer Liles was riding a department-issued motorcycle northbound on State Route 99, south of Avenue 152, when he collided with a truck-tractor. He was ejected from the motorcycle and struck by a passing vehicle. Despite lifesaving efforts, Officer Liles died at the scene.

Officer Liles, 44, served with the CHP for more than 16 years and was assigned to the Visalia Area office. After graduating from the CHP Academy in 2010, he served in San Jose, Hayward, and Fresno before transferring to Visalia in 2019.

In December 2025, Officer Liles became one of the first motorcycle officers assigned to the Visalia Area after completing the department’s rigorous motorcycle training at the CHP Academy.

Officer Liles is survived by his wife, two children, his parents and siblings.

The CHP holds a Bell Toll Tribute shortly after an officer’s death to honor the sacrifice of a fallen colleague.

The event is scheduled for the morning of Sept. 30 in Sacramento.
