FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Fresno County supervisors have pulled a library privatization discussion from their 2026 meeting agenda and will instead receive the information in a written report that will also be made public.
During a Board of Supervisors meeting, the board directed County Administrative Officer Paul Nerland not to present the library privatization item at the Oct. 20, 2026, meeting or at any other 2026 board meeting.
Instead, the information will be sent to supervisors as a Board Briefing Report.
The Board Briefing Report is expected to be sent to all supervisors by early November or sooner and will be available to the public on the same page where the county is posting the update.
The county previously solicited a study to examine the privatization of managing the Fresno County Public Library system, including potential costs, savings, and operational impacts.

The county emphasized that the study is not a proposal and does not represent board approval to privatize the Fresno County Public Library.
Because the board has taken no action on privatization, the Fresno County Public Library remains open, operational hours have not been reduced, and employees have not been laid off.
