FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — A first-of-its-kind study commissioned by the Girl Scouts of California is highlighting challenges facing young people across the state, including homelessness and mental health struggles.
According to the State of the Girl report, more than 145,000 girls in kindergarten through 12th grade in California experienced homelessness last year.
The report also found that 68% of girls reported harmful impacts on their mental health due to pressure at school.
The CEO of the local Girl Scouts organization spoke about how the organization can serve as a source of support for girls facing challenges.
The full State of the Girl report is available online at Girl Scouts CCS’s website, where families can also learn more about how to get their children involved in Girl Scouts.
