A 30-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the shooting death of another man earlier this month in Long Beach.

Unrico Sims, of Long Beach, was arrested during a SWAT operation at a home in the 1400 block of Chestnut Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department. He was booked on suspicion of murder and was being held in lieu of $2 million bail.

Sims is suspected in the killing of 33-year-old Long Beach resident Kenneth Shannon, whose body was found the morning of Sept. 3 in the 6500 block of Muriel Avenue, north of the 91 Freeway. According to police, the shooting is believed to have occurred late on Sept. 2.

A possible motive for the killing was not released, nor were any details regarding what led investigators to identify Sims as the suspect.

Anyone with information regarding the death was urged to contact homicide detectives Ethan Shear of Kelsey Myers at 562-570-7244. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or visit lacrimestoppers.org.
