Temperatures are on their way up and they’ll stay there for a while as September ends and October begins.

Afternoon highs are expected to be in the 90s for at least the next week in the Valley. Sacramento’s normal high temperature is now 85 degrees.

An onshore breeze and the relatively longer nights we get this time of year will allow things to cool down nicely the next few nights. Morning lows will be in the mid 50s in the Valley through Friday. This weekend and next week will not cool quite as much.

Otherwise the forecast is dry across Northern California.

Tuesday’s forecast

Tuesday morning will be pleasantly cool with light winds and lots of sun. The afternoon will be warm with a dry north breeze.

Wind forecast Tuesday

A dry north breeze will pick up Tuesday. Gusts will stay between15 and 20 mph up and down the Valley.

A very warm week ahead

Afternoon high temperatures will run close to 10 degrees higher than normal as October begins. It is likely that this warmth sticks around into next week.

Note that for the next few days, morning temperatures will be in the mid 50s.

Long range temperature outlook

NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center highlights a strong likelihood that this very warm pattern will continue for the entire West into the middle of October.

Foothills & Sierra 7 day forecast

It’ll be warm by October standards in the Foothills and Sierra, too.

Valley 7 day forecast

An onshore breeze and occasional clouds will keep afternoon heat in check for the next few days, but next week shows signs of running even warmer.
