San Diego Gas & Electric says they may proactively shut-off power to roughly 35-thousand customers from 5 a.m. Friday through 6 p.m. Monday.
They say the Public Safety Power Shut-offs are triggered by a combination of extreme heat and high risk Santa Ana winds expected over the next week. The utility says notifications have been sent to residents in inland valleys, mountain communities and several tribal reservations.
They also say accidental grid failures caused by high air conditioning demand can overheat local transformers and circuits resulting in power loss. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning in San Diego County, effective Friday morning and running through Oct. 8.
