The race for Fresno County Superior Court judge position No. 6 pits two former colleagues in the District Attorney’s Office.

Ashley Paulson was the top vote getter in the June primary with 47.07% of the vote. Steven Ueltzen received 29.49%

Paulson is a former deputy district attorney in Fresno County, where she spent a decade prosecuting violent criminals.

In 2019, she was honored with the Courageous Prosecutor of the Year Award for her work on the Violent Crime Unit.

In 2025, Paulson joined the Fresno City Attorney’s Office, where she is a chief assistant city attorney and the chief prosecuting attorney.

Her endorsements include Mayor Jerry Dyer, the Fresno Police Officers Association, the Fresno Deputy Sheriffs Association and the Valley Young Republicans.

Ueltzen is a senior deputy district attorney in Fresno County. He has more than 15 years of legal experience, including civil and criminal.

He is lead prosecutor in the District Attorney’s Office DUI Unit, where he seeks justice for victims of major-injury and fatal DUI collisions.

Ueltzen has twice received the Mothers Against Drunk Driving’s Outstanding Prosecutor award.

His endorsements include the Fresno County Prosecutors Association, the Clovis Police Officers Association, Fresno County Superior Court Judge Brian Alvarez and Debra Gerard Miller, former chief deputy district attorney and head of the homicide and MAGEC units.
