FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — PG&E warns the community to be on the lookout for impersonators of employees trying to get customer information.
Pacific Gas and Electric has received multiple reports from residents in Fresno County about imposters claiming that they can help customers save money.
The imposters say they can help by seeing a copy of the customer’s bill.
Sharing a copy of the bill gives the scammers access to financial information and the ability to make changes to the account without your authorization.
Here are some tips to avoid the scam.
If someone claims to be an employee, you should ask the employee to show their PG&E identification.
All employees are prepared to show it upon request.
Customers can call 800-743-5000 to confirm whether an individual is there on official company business.

PG&E says ”If someone says they are with PG&E and asks to see your bill, they are not with PG&E, and you should close the door.”
Customers should also call 911 if the imposter tries to gain entrance to their home or if they feel they are in danger.
