PORTERVILLE, Calif. (FOX26) — Police are on the scene of a shooting that left two people dead in Porterville.

It happened before 5 a.m. in the 460 block of South Main Street, just north of the Tule River Bridge.

Porterville officers arrived and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.

They provided aid until emergency personnel arrived, but both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims have been identified as two 30-year-old men who resided in the Bakersfield area. Their families have been notified.

Porterville Police Chief Bobby Rader spoke to Tulare County Sheriff Boudreaux and requested assistance from the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Crime Lab to process the crime scene.

This remains an active and ongoing homicide investigation.

“We are still in the early stages of this investigation. We understand the community’s desire for information, and we will provide additional details as they become verified and can be responsibly released,” said Chief Rader.
