This annual family tradition is nearly fifty years in the making, and the available activities and entertainment get better every year.
The entire event is underscored by festive Victorian splendor, which is especially charming with a backdrop of historic Gold Rush-era buildings. Streets are adorned with authentic gas lamps, glowing decorative lights, fresh cedar garlands, and vintage decor. Carolers roam the festival in old-timey costumes, and attendees are encouraged to join the fun by dressing in Victorian attire.
Live street performers and local musicians add to the allure — look out for characters including Father Christmas, a toy soldier, and even a walking Christmas tree.
Guests are invited to purchase unique holiday gifts, crafts, and treats from more than 100 vendors lining the streets, or to pop into the local boutiques and restaurants. Bustling booths serve hot mulled wine, buttered rum, apple toddies, and even free hot roasted chestnuts.
